AI Assistant in Storyline 360: Editing Images with AI Chat
Article Last Updated Apr 28, 2026
This article applies to:
Refining generated images often means starting over or settling for a close match. With AI Assistant, you can edit images directly in chat, so you can iterate quickly and get closer to the results you want. You can even work with existing images from your project, clipboard, or file. Here’s how to get started.
Edit Images with Prompts
AI Assistant lets you edit any image directly in chat—whether it’s newly generated, already in your project, uploaded from a file, or pasted from the clipboard. Simply describe the changes you want in plain language.
Common edits include:
- Changing the background or setting
- Changing your subject’s clothing or appearance
- Modifying what the subject is doing
- Adding or removing elements
Each edit creates a new version rather than changing the original, preserving the image’s aspect ratio whenever possible.
Note that these actions aren’t currently supported:
- Removing backgrounds to create transparent images
- Editing built-in characters from the content library
- Changing the aspect ratio
- Changing the image style
- Modifying written text
Edit a Generated Image
After generating an image, enter a follow-up prompt to make changes. Iterate as much as you like, and each version will be available in the chat.
When you’re satisfied with the result:
- Click Insert Image in the response to add it to your slide.
- Or, hover over the image for additional options:
- Click View to open the image in a preview window. Here, you can also replace or insert.
- Click the Add to Media Library icon to save the image to your media library.
Edit an Image from File, Media Library, or Clipboard
Click the plus (+) icon on the left side of the chat box and select Image from file or Image from Media Library.
- If you choose Image from file, your file explorer window will open. Find the image you want to use and select it.
- If you click Image from Media Library, the Media Library window will open. Choose the image you’d like to use, then click Insert Image.
- If you have an image in your clipboard after copying from an external source, you can paste it directly into the chat box.
Your selected image will be attached to the chat and sent along with your prompt. Note that you can only attach one image at a time.
When you’re satisfied with the result, insert the image from the response.
Edit an Image on Your Slide
Right-click an image on your slide, select Edit with AI to add it to the chat box, then enter your prompt. Use this method instead of describing the image in chat, especially when multiple images are on the slide.
When you’re satisfied with the result, choose to replace or insert the image from the response, or save it to the media library.
Achieve Better Results with These Tips
Use these tips to improve your results and work more efficiently.
Be Specific and Make Incremental Edits
If your prompts are too general, AI Assistant has more creative freedom to interpret your intent, which can lead to unpredictable output.
Instead of this prompt:
“Improve this image.”
Try a series of focused edits:
“Brighten the colors.”
“Add a second person in the background.”
“Center the main subject.”
Use Directional Keywords
When adding a new element, use keywords that specify its position relative to existing items. This helps AI Assistant integrate the element into the scene’s composition, preventing it from being placed randomly.
Instead of this prompt:
“Add a smartphone.”
Try:
“Add a smartphone leaning against the monitor to the right, just behind the coffee cup.”
Focus on Visual Changes, Not Layout Edits
You can adjust things like color and lighting, but not crop or resize.
Instead of:
“Crop the image to focus on the person.”
Try:
“Adjust the brightness and contrast to make the person stand out more.”
This ensures your edits stay compatible with what AI Assistant currently supports.
