Articulate Localization: Localizing Rise 360 Custom Blocks
Article Last Updated Mar 30, 2026
This article applies to:
Custom block localization is currently in beta. Functionality may change over time. Based on feedback and feature stability, some options could be modified, while others may be removed. Right-to-left translation isn't supported for custom blocks at this time.
We’re adding support for localizing custom blocks in Rise 360. Now, when you translate your Rise 360 training, the text in your custom blocks is also translated. That includes alternative text and audio transcripts. AI-generated text-to-speech is translated as well, and importing validator suggestions regenerates the audio with those suggestions applied. Read on to learn how this works.
Step 1: Set up Your Custom Blocks for Localization
For best results, apply these tips before translating training that includes custom blocks:
- Expand text box sizes when possible, since translated text may be longer than the original. The default Auto height layout adjusts the text box size to the text it contains and is always based on the source language text. If translated text overflows, scrollbars will appear. This prevents text from overlapping or being cut off, ensuring all content remains accessible. You can expand the text box size to avoid scrollbars by switching to Fixed size layout using either of the following methods:
- Click and drag the top or bottom edge of the text box to lengthen it. This automatically changes the layout from auto height to fixed size. (Note: Double-clicking the bottom of the frame converts the text box size behavior to auto height.)
- Click the text box to display the toolbar at the top, then select Position. Under Layout, choose Fixed size. Enter pixel values in the width and height fields to adjust the object size.
- Include alternative texts and audio transcripts in the source language so they can be translated.
- Note that closed captions aren’t currently available for videos in custom blocks. If you need captions, use a video block instead.
Step 2: Translate the Content
Translate your course as you normally would in Articulate Localization. Here’s the user guide for reference: Articulate Localization: Create Multi-Language Rise 360 Courses
Step 3: Adjust Objects per Language
After translation, you can fine-tune text and swap media for specific languages while keeping the overall structure consistent.
Navigation
Multi-language custom blocks follow the structure of the source language. To add, move, resize, or delete an object after translation, navigate to the source language. Updating colors, typography, or styles is also done in the source language.
- Switch between languages: Use either of the following methods to switch between languages while editing a custom block:
- Click the language dropdown on the top left and select the language you want to update.
- Press Shift+S to quickly toggle between the source language and the most recently viewed target language.
- Undo/redo: Press Ctrl+Z to undo the last action and Ctrl+Y to redo it. Remember that your undo/redo history is cleared when switching to a different language.
- Bulk edit: Select multiple objects to adjust them simultaneously using Ctrl+Shift+click (Windows) or Cmd+Shift+click (Mac)
Tip: For more keyboard shortcuts, click the question mark (?) icon at the bottom right of the custom block editor and select Keyboard Shortcuts.
Text Box
By default, text boxes use Auto height layout based on the text in the source language. If translated text overflows, scrollbars will appear. This prevents text from overlapping or being cut off, ensuring all content remains accessible. To remove the scrollbars, do either of the following in the custom block editor:
- Make the text box longer in the source language by switching to Fixed size layout using either of the following methods:
- Click and drag the top or bottom edge of the text box to lengthen it. This automatically changes the layout from auto height to fixed size. (Note: Double-clicking the bottom of the frame converts the text box size behavior to auto height)
- Click the text box to display the toolbar at the top, then select Position. Under Layout, choose Fixed size. Enter pixel values in the width and height fields to adjust the object size.
- Decrease the font size in the affected target language by navigating to the target language, selecting the text with scrollbars, and adjusting the font size from the formatting toolbar at the top.
Text
You can modify text and its formatting in text boxes and shapes for each target language without affecting the other languages. You can also edit alternative text and audio transcripts. Keep reading to learn how to modify different kinds of text in the custom block editor.
- Change text formatting in a target language:
- Switch to the target language.
- Click the text box to display the toolbar at the top.
- Select from the formatting options available.
- Update alternative text in a target language:
- Switch to the target language.
- Click the object—such as an image, video, or shape—to display a floating menu, then select the accessibility icon. Or right-click the object and select Alternative text from the menu that appears.
- Update audio transcripts in a target language:
- Switch to the target language.
- Click the audio to display the toolbar at the top.
- Choose Edit Transcript from the toolbar.
Media
Images, videos, and audio assets that are not AI-generated text-to-speech will remain the same across all languages after translation. Any non-text modifications you make to the media in the source language—such as image alignment, for example— will be applied to all target languages. You can have language-specific media by changing the media asset in the target language. Remember that replacing a target language asset disconnects it from the source language, so any modifications made to the source won’t be applied going forward. Keep reading to learn how to modify images, videos, and audio assets.
- Change images in a target language in the custom block editor:
- Switch to the target language.
- Click the image to display the toolbar at the top, then select Replace image. Or right-click to show the menu options.
- Choose the method for the new image: Replace with new upload, Replace from AI, or Replace from Content Library.
You can also crop and adjust language-specific images within the image frame. Here’s how:
-
- Switch to the target language.
- Click the image to display the toolbar at the top, then select the crop icon. Or right-click and choose Crop.
- Resize the image by dragging a corner or edge when the pointer changes to a double-sided arrow.
- Reposition the image by dragging it when the pointer changes to a four-sided arrow.
- Change videos in a target language in the custom block editor:
- Switch to the target language.
- Click the video to display the toolbar at the top, then select Upload. Or right-click and choose Replace video.
Note: Closed captions aren’t currently available for videos in custom blocks.
- Change audio assets in target languages in the custom block editor:
- Switch to the target language.
- Click the audio to display the toolbar at the top. Or right-click to show the menu options.
- To insert a new audio, choose either of the following methods: AI audio, Record, or Upload.
- Or choose Revert to source audio from the menu to restore the audio from the source language.
