Storyline 360: Failed to Import PowerPoint Presentation

Did you get a “Failed to import PowerPoint presentation” error message in Storyline 360? That could indicate a few potential issues. This article will help you pinpoint the problem.

The Presentation Is Password Protected

Remove the password protection from the presentation, then import it into Storyline 360.

The Presentation File Type Is Unsupported

As of the March 3, 2026 update, Storyline 360 only supports PPTX files. If you try to import a PPT file, you may see an error even if the file isn’t password protected. 

Open the presentation in PowerPoint, save it as a PPTX file, then import it into Storyline 360.

The Presentation Can’t Be Read

If Storyline 360 still can’t read the file, try the following:

  • Make sure the file has a .pptx extension.
  • Confirm the file opens without errors in PowerPoint.
  • Make sure the file isn’t open in PowerPoint or another app when you import it.

If the file still won’t open, open it in PowerPoint, save it as a new copy, and then import the new file into Storyline 360.
