Storyline 360: Using Resources

Article Last Updated Mar 17, 2026

This article applies to:

Sometimes learners need more than just what’s on the slide to get the whole picture. The Resources tab in the player lets you share external content, such as reference materials and supporting documents, so learners can easily access helpful information alongside your Storyline 360 course.

It’s also a practical way to provide a printable transcript or downloadable version of your content, giving learners the flexibility to review materials in the format that works best for them. Keep reading to learn how to use the Resources tab effectively.

Enable the Resources Tab

Since the Resources tab is enabled by default in the player, it should appear in your course unless it has been turned off.

If you don’t see it, go to the Home tab on the ribbon and click Player. In the Player Tabs area, make sure the Resources box is marked.

Add Resources

Once you’ve confirmed that your Resources tab is enabled, you can add resources. Follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Home tab and click Player.
  2. In the player properties window, click Resources.
  3. Click the Add icon at the bottom of the window.
  4. When the Add Resource window appears, enter a title. This is the name learners will see in the resource list.
  5. Select either URL or File, depending on the kind of resource you’re adding, then do the following:
  • If you’re adding a URL, enter the web address in the field provided. Click the Test button to make sure it opens in your browser as you expect.
When you publish the course, learners will be able to click the resource name to access the web content. They’ll need to be connected to the internet for it to work.
  • If you’re adding a file, click Browse, select the file you want to attach, and click Save
When you publish, Storyline will bundle a copy of the file along with your course content. It’ll be located in the story_content folder of your published output. Learners must have the appropriate software to view the attached resources. For example, they would need Microsoft Word to open Word documents.
  1. Click Save. The resource will appear in the list with an icon indicating its type.

Edit, Rearrange, and Delete Resources

Use the buttons at the bottom of the Resources window to edit, delete, and rearrange resources.

Reuse the Same Resources in Other Projects

Resources are saved within the project file, not in the player. Saving a custom player and applying it to another project won’t transfer resources.

To reuse the same resources in another project, save your file as a Storyline template. When you start a new project, choose Import > Import from story template on the Storyline start screen.

If you update resources in the template later, those changes won’t apply to existing projects created from it. You’ll need to update each project individually.

Show or Hide the Resources Tab on a Slide-by-Slide Basis

By default, built-in player tabs, such as the Resources tab, appear on all slides. You can hide the tab for individual slides through the slide properties.

Change the Name of the Resources Tab

To rename the Resources tab, edit the name in the player text labels.

Classic Player: Enter a Description for the Resources Tab

If you’re using the classic player, you can add descriptive text that appears at the top of the Resources panel.

In the Description field, enter the text you want learners to see above the list of resources.
