Storyline 360: Improving Experiences With the Accessibility Checker
Article Last Updated Feb 9, 2026
This article applies to:
Whether you’re an accessibility novice or expert, the built-in accessibility checker in Storyline 360 helps you create more inclusive training. With one click, you can check your content against selected Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) success criteria that can be tested automatically, and get a clear, actionable report. The report highlights potential barriers and provides step-by-step guidance to help you move forward. Finding and addressing accessibility issues is faster and more approachable than ever.
Note: While the accessibility checker offers a strong starting point, no automated tool can identify every accessibility barrier on its own. For the best results, pair the accessibility checker with manual review and testing, including keyboard-only navigation and screen reader testing.
Open the Accessibility Checker
Get started with the accessibility checker using one of the following options:
-
Go to the View tab on the ribbon and select Accessibility Checker.
-
Or, go to the status bar at the bottom of the app and choose Accessibility Issues.
The Accessibility Checker pane opens and offers two main views:
-
Summary: Interactive tiles that let you review results by WCAG criteria and issue complexity, which reflects how much effort or judgment is needed to fix an issue.
-
All Issues: A detailed list of scan results, brief descriptions of accessibility impact, links to the corresponding WCAG criteria, and clear recommendations for how to fix each issue.
Navigate the Results
Select the arrow icon next to each issue's description to expand or collapse its details. When expanded, all instances of that issue appear in a list. You can:
-
Select a line item to view more information and guidance on the right side of the pane.
-
Use the link in the right pane to jump directly to the exact issue location in your course.
Filter, Sort, and Manage Issues
Use the following options to focus on what matters most:
-
Select Filter to view or edit applied filters.
-
Select Sort to organize issues by status, level, issue name, or number of instances, and choose ascending or descending order.
-
Select Skip all instances to skip every occurrence of a specific issue.
-
Select Show skipped to display issues you previously chose to skip.
Understand Issue Complexity
Each issue is labeled based on how it can be resolved:
-
Fix in one click: Applies to simple updates, such as enabling the playback speed control, that the accessibility checker can fix automatically. Select Fix it for me to apply the change.
-
Fix with AI: Lets you use AI Assistant to generate suggestions, such as alt text (alternative text) or captions. Review and edit AI-generated content to make sure it is accurate, meaningful, and appropriate for your learners before saving.
Note: Even without AI Assistant, you can still fix these issues manually by writing your own alt text or captions. -
Manual Fix: Requires your input and judgment to resolve. The accessibility checker provides plain-language instructions and links to the relevant WCAG guidelines to help you make informed decisions.
Scan Automatically
The accessibility checker currently supports up to 15 WCAG success criteria that can be automatically tested across multiple conformance levels, covering 24 accessibility issues. It scans your course when you open or edit it in Storyline 360, so the report stays up to date. You can also select Refresh to run the scan at any time.
Only issues relevant to your content appear in the results. For example, a missing captions issue won’t appear in a course that doesn’t include audio or video.
Choose a Docking Option
Use the Redock icon to move the floating pane below the timeline. Select the Pin icon to keep results visible while you work. Choose Undock to use the floating pane, which you can move to another monitor for more space and flexibility.
Publish
When you publish your course, you’ll be reminded about any unresolved accessibility issues. Select Review to open the accessibility checker in a floating pane.
Skipped issues aren’t included in this reminder, so be sure to use Show skipped in the accessibility checker to revisit any items you intentionally set aside earlier.
Understand Compatibility
The accessibility checker is available in the May 2025 update and later versions of Storyline 360. Courses that include skipped accessibility issues can’t be opened in earlier versions of Storyline 360. To restore compatibility, select Restore or Restore all instances to make skipped accessibility issues visible again before opening the project in an earlier version.
