AI Assistant in Rise 360: Using Images from Source Content

Article Last Updated Apr 17, 2026

Source Content Image Extraction is currently in beta. Functionality will evolve, and we may modify or remove certain features based on user feedback and stability. This feature is only available if AI Assistant is enabled.

Manually extracting and uploading images from existing documents each time you need one in your Rise 360 course takes a lot of time and effort. Luckily, AI Assistant can automatically extract and save images from source content you upload, including  PDFs, Word docs, or PowerPoint files. You can then reuse the images anywhere in your course. Follow the steps below to get started.

Step 1: Upload Source Content

On the course or lesson overview page, click the AI Assistant menu in the top right and select AI settings. When the AI settings window opens, drag and drop your source content or click choose file. Supported files include DOC/DOCX, PPT/PPTX, and PDF.

If you’re creating a course using the AI Course Drafts workflow, upload your source content during the first step.

Step 2: Use Extracted Images

After uploading your source content, you can access and insert extracted images into your course by following these steps:

  1. Go to a block where you want to insert an image, or click Image from the block shortcuts bar at the bottom to insert a new image block.

  2. Hover over the block and click Content from the design toolbar on the left.

  3. Click the Replace from your sources icon to open the Course media modal to the From your sources tab.

    • When inserting or replacing images in blocks other than an image block, the Replace from your sources option should appear alongside the other image options.

Blank or low-quality images are automatically filtered out during extraction. Extracted images are course-specific and can't be accessed from other courses.

The Course media modal displays a gallery of extracted images along with several tools to help you:

  • Search images. Use the search bar in the upper left to find what you need. AI Assistant generates detailed descriptions for each image, making them easy to locate.
  • Filter by source file. Use the Filters button in the upper right to filter by a specific document and view only its images. You can select one file at a time or all files at once. Use the filters search box to find a specific source file.
  • New Source Upload. Click this tab next to Source Image Gallery to upload additional source content. Images from newly uploaded sources will be automatically extracted.
  • View extraction count. Click the chevron to the right of the Extracted Sources tab to expand it and view the list of source content and the number of images extracted from each.
    • Previously uploaded source content also appears on this list. To include images from those files, click the Extract Images button next to each file.
    • Selecting a source file from the list also filters the displayed images.
  • Insert an image. When you find an image you want to use, hover over it and click Insert to add it to your block. You can also insert directly from the preview window by clicking Insert Image in the bottom right.
  • Preview images. Hover over an image and click Preview to enlarge it and view details before inserting. An AI-generated description appears on the right, along with the source file name. Click the chevrons to cycle through images. Click Close or the chevron in the upper-left corner to return to the gallery.
  • Delete an image. Hover over an image and click the trash icon in the lower-right corner to remove it. You can also delete an image in preview mode by clicking the trash icon in the upper right. This doesn't affect your source file. However, deleting the source file removes all extracted images from that file.

Pro Tips:

  • You can use Rise 360’s built-in crop tool to adjust images after inserting them.
  • If you accidentally delete an image, you can re-extract it by uploading the source file again. But to prevent duplicates, remove the source file from the AI settings before re-uploading. Images already inserted into the course will remain unaffected.

Provide Feedback

Source Content Image Extraction is currently in beta, and we’d love to hear about your experience. If you find this feature helpful, click the thumbs-up icon in the lower-right corner of the Course media window. If not, click the thumbs-down icon and share your thoughts. Either way, your feedback will go directly to our product and engineering teams. Clicking the X icon will permanently dismiss the feedback menu for the current session.
