This article applies to: Articulate 360 AI
A guide breaks a process into numbered, sequential steps, pairing each step with a clear action and a visual so your audience can follow along without guesswork.
Record a process, a standard operating procedure, or a set of onboarding steps, then let AI turn it into a customizable step-by-step guide. Read on to learn how.
- Generate a Guide
- Edit Step Block Content and Visuals
- Add, Reorder, Duplicate, and Delete Steps
- Add Additional Block Types
- Modify Block Style and Format
Generate a Guide
Before you get started, make sure you have a video or screen recording. This will be your source material when generating a guide.
Your video must include audio explaining what you're documenting and/or step-by-step instructions for achieving the results. Source videos can be up to 45 minutes or 500 MB.
From your dashboard, select Guide and follow the content creation process. You can also generate a new guide from the library.
Edit Step Block Content and Visuals
When you open a guide, you'll see your steps laid out top to bottom as individual blocks. Nova automatically pairs each relevant step with a screenshot from your source material, if available.
Click into the step block title and description to edit it just like any other text content. To add an image or video:
- Hover over the block and click the Content icon.
- Click the Media icon.
- Select a method:
- Upload media: Upload an image or video file from your computer.
- Add a frame from your source video: Select a single frame from your source video to use as an image.
- Generate with AI: Generate an image using AI.
- Search your sources: Use images from your uploaded source material.
- Search Content Library: Search the content library for stock images.
- Embed from web: Embed videos and other objects hosted on the web.
Once added, you can modify or replace the media by selecting an option next to the thumbnail:
- Annotate (images only): Add text, boxes, lines, highlighting, or freehand drawing to call attention to what matters.
- Replace: Replace with an image from the original source (video only) or choose new media from your local files, the content library, your source material, AI generation, or a web object.
- Replace thumbnail (video only): Upload or generate a new video thumbnail.
- Manage captions (video only): Generate or edit video captions.
- Crop: Adjust cropping.
- Edit alt tag: Add or edit the media alt text.
- Remove: Delete the media.
To add audio:
- In the sidebar, click the Add audio icon. This opens the Course media window.
- Choose what to insert:
- AI audio. Use a text-to-speech narration.
- Record. Use your microphone to record audio.
- Upload. Use an audio file from your computer.
Once uploaded, you can use the icons next to the audio to modify the default playback speed and volume, remove the audio, or edit the transcript. To replace the audio, click the audio icon in the sidebar or, in the main window, the Options icon to the right of the audio seekbar.
Add, Reorder, Duplicate, and Delete Steps
Add a step block by clicking the Step icon in the toolbar that displays at the bottom or appears when hovering between two existing steps.
To reorder a step, hover over it, then click the up or down arrow in the right-floating toolbar. Inserting or reordering a step automatically renumbers the rest, keeping your sequence accurate. Duplicate or delete a step by clicking the appropriate icon.
Add Additional Block Types
Step blocks are the backbone of a guide. An additional focused subset of blocks can be used to provide more context, insert media, and gather feedback:
- Text. Rich-text block for framing or recapping content outside the step sequence. Can also provide pre-formatted headings, statements, and more.
- Video. Standalone video block with captions.
- Note. Callout for tips or key takeaways.
- Survey. Feedback block for collecting ratings or responses.
To reorder, duplicate, or delete a block, use the floating toolbar on the right.
Modify Block Style and Format
Adjust a block's appearance by hovering over the block and selecting an icon from the left-hand toolbar.
- Click Style to set a background color from the predefined options or an image. Uncheck Card style for a plain white background.
- Click the Format icon to adjust corner radius and block padding using the sliders.
