Tips
Use Text to Speech to Localize Narration
When you’re on a Starter plan, text-to-speech translations aren’t automatically translated. However, you can translate your script together with your course and generate audio narration using the text-to-speech feature. Once that’s done, you can insert the language-specific audio for each target language. Follow the steps below for Rise 360 and Storyline 360 content.
If you have AI Assistant and the target language is supported, you can create AI-generated text-to-speech from translated text.
- Include a text version of your narration in the course, either in a block or as an audio transcript.
- Translate your course or microlearning.
- Publish your course to Review 360 for validation.
-
- Validators will also see the transcripts as they review the whole course.
- When the validation process is complete, follow these steps to generate text-to-speech for each audio asset in the target language or languages:
-
- To use text from the audio transcript:
-
-
- Click the Options (...) icon on the right of the audio player and select Edit transcript.
- Select the transcript text, press CTRL+C to copy, and then click X or Cancel to exit.
- Click the Options (...) icon again, then choose Edit audio.
- Paste the copied text into the script field.
- Choose your preferred voice from the Voice drop-down menu.
- Click Generate Speech at the bottom.
- Click Insert to add the audio to your course.
-
-
-
To use text from the block:
-
-
-
- Click the Options (...) icon, then choose Edit audio.
- Click the insert block text link above the script field to add the block’s text.
- Choose your preferred voice from the Voice drop-down menu.
- Click Generate Speech at the bottom.
- Click Insert to add the audio to your course.
-
You can use these steps for classic text-to-speech and AI-generated text-to-speech.
- Before translating your course, include the text narration for each slide. We recommend placing it in the slide notes.
- Translate your course.
- Publish your course to Review 360 for validation. Slide notes are included in the validation table.
- When the validation process is complete, convert the slide note text into speech via Insert tab > Audio drop-down arrow > Text-to-Speech in the source language. If you have AI Assistant, you can create AI-generated text-to-speech for better quality.
- Select an appropriate language and voice and click Insert.
- Switch to a target language and select the source language’s text-to-speech audio to reveal the Audio Tools—Options tab on the ribbon.
- Select the Text-to-Speech button or the Replace Audio ([language code]) dropdown > Text-to-Speech option to create text-to-speech for this language. If you have AI Assistant, you can choose AI Text-to-Speech.
If you have slide objects that need to sync with the audio clip, you can duplicate these objects and place them on a slide layer to adjust the timing for the specific language. Then, add a trigger to show this layer on the corresponding language version.
