Add Questions
To get started, edit an existing quiz lesson or create a new one in a Rise 360 course and then follow these steps:
- Modify the quiz title and add a description as needed.
- Select a template question on the left to modify or click Add Question in the lower left corner.
- Choose a question type: Multiple Choice, Multiple Response, Fill in the Blank, or Matching. Find guidance for using each type below.
Regardless of question type, you can enter optional feedback and choose the type of feedback you'd like to provide:
- Select Any Response when you want a single feedback statement for the entire question, whether learners get it right or wrong. Enter that statement in the field below the question.
- Select Correct/Incorrect when you want to give learners one feedback statement for the correct response and another for all incorrect responses. Enter separate feedback for both correct and incorrect responses in the fields below the question.
Multiple Choice
Multiple choice quiz questions work well when you want to measure knowledge quickly and objectively. Each question requires at least two answer choices, but you can add as many as you want. Here’s how to use them:
- Choose Multiple Choice.
- Enter your question text and answer choices in the main window.
- Select the radio button for the correct answer choice.
Here are some tips for working with multiple choice questions:
- Multiple Choice questions also allow you to provide different feedback for each answer choice. Select By Choice, and then enter your feedback in the fields that appear to the right of each answer choice.
- Changing from multiple choice to multiple response is easy. Just click the Multiple Choice drop-down arrow in the upper right corner and switch to Multiple Response.
Multiple Response
Multiple response quiz questions challenge learners to understand training content more completely by offering assessments that have more than one correct answer. Each question requires at least two answer choices, but you can add as many as you’d like. Here’s how to use them:
- Choose Multiple Response.
- Enter your question text and answer choices in the main window.
- Mark the boxes for all correct answer choices.
To change from multiple choice to multiple response, click the Multiple Response drop-down arrow in the upper right corner and switch to Multiple Choice.
Fill in the Blank
Fill in the blank questions require learners to recall key words or phrases from the course content, testing their comprehension. You can add up to 10 acceptable answers per question. Answers aren’t case sensitive unless you want them to be. Here’s how to use them:
- Choose Fill in the Blank.
- Enter your question text and acceptable answers in the main window.
- If your acceptable answers are case sensitive, mark the Case sensitive box. If that box isn’t marked, learners can use uppercase or lowercase letters in their responses.
Matching
Drag-and-drop matching questions boost interactivity in your training. Add up to 10 text-based matching pairs per question—for example, match countries to their capitals or chemical elements to their abbreviations.
- Choose Matching.
- Enter question text or instructions at the top of the screen.
- Enter up to 10 text-based matching pairs below the question text. For example, you might list countries in the left column and their capitals in the right column.
Here are some tips for working with matching questions:
- If you need to delete a matching pair, hover over the row and click the garbage bin icon that appears.
- Draggable answer choices in the left column always shuffle so learners see them in a random order. Matches in the right column don't shuffle; they stay in the order you list them.
Delete and Duplicate Questions
Delete or duplicate any question by clicking the More icon and selecting the appropriate option. You can also add the selected question to a Question Bank.
Tips
- You can rearrange answer choices in any question type by dragging them up and down the list. Just hover over an answer choice, click and hold the vertical dots that appear, drag the response up or down, then release your mouse to drop it in place.
- To add media to your question, click the camera icon in the upper right corner; then upload an image or video, search Content Library 360 for an image, or embed web content.
- Changes made in settings apply to the entire quiz.
Generate and Edit Questions with AI
Want to save time designing your quizzes? TryAI Assistant’s quiz generation feature to create a full quiz based on existing lessons in just a few clicks. Check out the user guide for full details on how question generation works. Here’s how to get started:
Generate with AI
- Select Generate quiz from the AI Assistant dropdown menu within the course overview page.
- Customize your questions via prompt—set a focus topic, learning objective, and level of difficulty—or skip directly to quiz generation.
- Once the quiz is generated, you can open it to see more options, such as adding or editing questions.
Edit with AI
- You can modify any question, even those not generated by AI, by clicking the Edit with AI button.
- Enter how you'd like to modify your question or select a suggestion. AI Assistant preserves the number of choices you had originally and generates new content and feedback.
- When you're ready, click Replace question. You can also choose to make it a new question by inserting it below the current question.
Make Quizzes Timed
If you need to limit how long learners have to complete all questions, you can set a timer in quiz settings. The timer resets after each attempt.
Let Learners Test Out of Content
Skip-ahead quizzes allow creators to offer competency-based assessments for learners. Learners who pass these quizzes can jump to the section designated by the training author. Here’s how:
- Create a quiz lesson that's followed by at least one additional lesson or quiz. This setting appears disabled if there's no content after the quiz lesson.
- Click the Settings icon in the upper-right corner.
- Toggle on Skip Ahead If Passed.
- Use the If Passed, Skip To drop-down menu to select the lesson or quiz learners advance to after successfully passing the quiz.
Once enabled, learners who pass the quiz can either jump to the content you selected or continue with the course as normal. Any skipped content is marked complete.
Note: Enabling this setting automatically enables the Restrict Navigation setting.
Accessibility
Question types for quiz lessons are accessible. If you use media, ensure images have alternative text (alt text) and videos have closed captions. Conduct testing with keyboard navigation and screen readers to ensure accessibility. For further guidance on creating accessible content, refer to our accessibility design tips below:
