Rise 360: Modifying Appearance and Navigation

Article Last Updated Jun 15, 2026

This article applies to:

You can easily customize how your training looks and how learners interact with it using the options in the Theme menu. Change the cover page, menu style, cover image, accent color, and fonts, add a logo, control learner navigation, and more. Just click the Theme icon to get started.

The Theme menu is accessible only to content owners.

Note: Theme settings apply to the current content only. However, when working with content in a Localization stack, theme settings applied to any version are applied to all versions.

Change the Layout Style

Preload different cover page options, sidebar menu, and lesson header layouts by choosing a theme. New content has the Rise theme applied by default. Follow these steps:

  1. Once you've added at least one lesson and/or content block, click the Theme icon in the top menu of the editor.
  2. Click the Change Theme button.
  3. Select a different option to see how your content will look with the theme applied.
  4. Click Save and confirm your selection.
  5. Click Back to return to the Theme menu.

Note: Changing your theme doesn't affect your color, font, or navigation settings.

Change the Cover Image

A cover image is added by default when you create your content. This image is used across various theme layouts, on the Rise 360 dashboard, and in preview links. If you prefer not to use a cover image, select a cover page layout with a theme color instead.

Note: Even if you select a non-image cover page layout, the cover image still appears on the Rise 360 dashboard and for preview links.

In the Theme menu, select Cover Page in the sidebar. Next to the photo, click Edit. You can upload your own image, generate an image with AI, or search for the perfect one from the extensive assets in Content Library 360.

You can also crop the current image or adjust the Overlay if your title text is hard to read against an image background. Select a light or dark transparent overlay, then adjust its opacity percentage. Overlay adjustments affect text contrast for the image on both the cover page and sidebar navigation. For instance, if you select a dark overlay, the text color will be light and vice versa.

Pro tip: Check your navigation settings to make sure your selected overlay provides sufficient contrast on the sidebar image for readability.

Select Add alt tag to add alternative text to your cover image.

Cover image changes are saved automatically.

Modify the Cover Page and Add a Logo

In the Theme menu, select Cover Page. Select an available cover page layout to see it with your current content in the main window.

Click Save in the upper left to commit your changes or Cancel to discard them.

Add a Logo

Add a logo to a course by clicking Upload. You can upload your own logo file, generate one with AI, or search Content Library 360. Once the logo is uploaded, you can change or delete it by clicking Edit

Tip: When generating an image with AI, select the Square aspect ratio to get a logo-ready image.

Reduce whitespace in your image by selecting Crop logo. In the crop image pop-up, manually crop your image or click Constrain to square to automatically apply a square crop. Click Save to commit your changes. Your original image is preserved if you'd like to manually remove the crop.

You can also increase the size of the logo on the cover page by selecting one of the following options from the Logo size drop-down list:

  • Small—default logo size
  • Medium—1.5x larger than the default size
  • Large—2x larger than the default size

Note: SVG and GIF files can't be cropped.

Logo changes are automatically saved. Click Back to return to the main themes menu.

Start Course Button

Toggle the Start/Resume Button setting to hide or display the action button that appears below your course title. If the button is hidden, learners can only start or resume the course by selecting a lesson.

Select Course Navigation and Button Style

You have multiple navigation options depending on your training type. Choose from the sidebar menu, compact navigation, and overlay navigation for courses. For microlearning, select continuous scroll or incremental steps.

By default, Rise 360 courses use the sidebar menu. The compact menu is a small menu that appears as a minimized card in the bottom-left corner of your course. Overlay navigation is a large, persistent card that displays at the top of the course.

Blank microlearning content defaults to continuous scroll, while content templates default to stepped navigation. In stepped mode, you can select an indicator type or disable the indicator bar entirely.

Modify Navigation Style and Appearance

In the Theme menu, select Navigation, then select one of the available navigation layouts to see it with your current content in the main window.

For courses, click the Buttons tab to modify the appearance of the previous and next buttons. Select from full-width or floating, or disable them completely. You can also choose from white or dark color schemes or versions that use your selected theme color. Theme color options have a 3:1 color contrast ratio.

Note: Changing the theme won't change your navigation selections.

Click Save in the upper left to commit your changes or Cancel to discard them. Click Back to return to the main themes menu.

Modify Navigation Behavior

In addition to choosing visual navigation elements, you can also control users' navigation experience.

Change the Lesson Header

For courses only, you can modify lesson headers, including layouts, lesson counts, and author avatars, by selecting Lesson Headers from the Theme menu.

Toggle Lesson Headers or Lesson Count

Enable the Hide Lesson Headers setting to disable lesson headers entirely. This hides the lesson count label, lesson title, and author avatar at the top of each lesson.

Enabling this setting also hides the additional theme menu options.

If you just want to hide the lesson count, disable the Lesson Count Labels option at the bottom of the sidebar.

Modify Layout

Choose from several available header layouts. Select one to see it with your current content in the main window.

To use an image as your header, select the Image style and click Edit Image. In addition to uploading, generating, or selecting an image from the Edit menu, you can also access crop, overlay, and alt text options.

Note: Saving image changes also saves any changes made in the Lesson Header settings.

Once you've selected a header style, change the header height by selecting an option from the drop-down menu at the bottom of the sidebar.

Hide Author Avatars

You can hide the author avatar everywhere, for all lessons, or just for individual lessons.

  • Cover page and all lessons: On the cover page, click the author avatar and select Hide Author. This hides the author avatar on the cover page and all lessons.
  • All lessons: In the Theme Lesson Header menu, disable the Author Avatar option. This hides author avatars for all lessons but keeps the author avatar on the cover page.
  • Individual lessons: In each individual lesson, select Hide Author from the author avatar drop-down menu.
  • Click Save in the upper left to commit your changes or Cancel to discard them. Click Back to return to the main Theme menu.

Set the Theme Color and Adjust Contrast

In the Theme menu, select Colors to customize your content with a theme color and adjust text and graphic contrast.

Theme Color

The theme color appears throughout your content to tie it together visually. Selecting a color populates the color selector with a main theme color and a lighter tint of that color. Button text automatically changes from light to dark as needed to preserve a 4.5:1 contrast ratio for accessibility.

Select one of the suggested colors to continue or create a custom color:

  1. Click Custom.
  2. Add a color by entering the hex code, manually selecting one from the color palette, or using the eye dropper tool to choose a color anywhere on your screen (not available in Safari and Firefox).
  3. Click Done to close the color selector.

Note: Changing the theme won't change your color selection.

Contrast

You can also modify text and graphic elements that appear over your accent color to conform to accessibility standards, or force a light or dark contrast. Choose from the following options:

  • Auto:  All elements adhere to an accessibility-conformant 4.5:1 ratio, switching as needed to preserve contrast
  • Light: All elements are white or light, regardless of accent color
  • Dark: All elements are black or dark, regardless of accent color

Note: When Light or Dark is selected, training elements don't automatically adjust and may not meet accessibility-conformant contrast guidelines.

Click Save in the upper left to commit your changes or Cancel to discard them. Click Back to return to the main Theme menu.

Change Fonts

In the Theme menu, select Fonts to choose and preview recommended header and body font pairings.

To mix and match heading and body fonts, click the More tab. The More tab is also where you can add and manage your own custom fonts.

Note: Changing the theme won't change your font selection.

Click Save in the upper left to commit your changes or Cancel to discard them. Click Back to return to the main Theme menu.

Modify Block Animations

By default, non-text blocks animate smoothly into view as learners scroll through block lessons, but you can turn the animations off if you prefer. In the Theme menu, select Blocks, then disable the Block Entrance Animations setting.

Click Save in the upper left to commit your changes or Cancel to discard them. Click Back to return to the main Theme menu.
