Get Started

Follow these steps to manage slide masters and layouts with AI Chat:

1. Open your project, then go to Story View or Slide View.
2. Click the AI Assistant tab on the right side of the screen.
3. Enter your prompt in the chat box at the bottom. If you're unsure where to start, click the Give me some ideas button for sample prompts.

Tip: Refer to masters and layouts by the names or numbers you see in Slide Master view, such as “Clean” or “the Title Only layout.” You can also describe a layout by what's on it, like “the layout with the laptop image.”

Explore Slide Masters and Layouts

Find the right layout right from AI Chat, without switching to Slide Master view. Try the following tasks to explore your masters and layouts. We’ve included some sample prompts to help you get started.

List Masters and Layouts

Review the names of the masters and layouts in your project with a prompt like “What masters and layouts do I have?”

Get Details About a Master or Layout

Get a brief description of each layout in a master by asking, “Can you describe the Clean master in more detail?”

You can also search by appearance. For example, ask, “Do any of my layouts have a blue-ish background?”

Compare Layouts

Not sure which layout fits your content? Ask AI to compare two layouts, such as “How is the Title and Content layout different from the Title Only layout?”

See Where Layouts Are Used

Find out which layouts your slides use with prompts like “What layouts are being used in this scene?” AI responds with the layout names and the slides that use them.

Apply Layouts to Slides

Once you've found the right layout, ask AI to apply it. Choose the method that matches how you think about your slides:

• Describe the placeholders: “Give this slide a title-only layout and give the last slide a question and media layout.”
• Describe what's on the layout: “Give it the layout with the laptop image.”
• Use the layout name: “Apply the Title and Content layout to slide 1.2.”

You can apply different layouts to multiple slides with a single prompt.

Organize Masters and Layouts

Keep your project tidy by chatting with AI to build and maintain your masters and layouts. Review the following tasks AI can help with, then try the sample prompts.

Create Masters and Layouts

Add a new master or layout using prompts such as “Insert a new layout in Clean and name it Media Layout” or “Create a new slide master called Training Modules.”

Rename Masters and Layouts

Rename masters and layouts with prompts such as “Rename the Clean slide master to Training Modules” or “Rename Media Layout to Image Layout.”

Duplicate Masters and Layouts

Start from an existing design by duplicating it. Try “Duplicate the Clean slide master” or “Duplicate the Title Only layout from the Clean slide master.”

Move or Copy Layouts

Move a layout to a different master, or copy it so it appears in both masters. For example, say “Move the Title Only layout from Custom Design to Clean” or “Copy the Question and Media layout from Custom Design to Clean.”

Delete Unused Masters and Layouts

Clean up your project by removing masters and layouts that are not used by any slides. Use a prompt like “Delete the unused masters and layouts.” AI will ask you to confirm before deleting anything.

If you're not sure which masters and layouts are unused, ask AI to first show which layouts your slides use.

You can restore deleted masters and layouts within the same session by prompting AI to restore them, or you can click the Undo button.

FAQs

Can AI Chat manage feedback masters and layouts?

Not currently. AI Chat only works with slide masters and layouts. Use feedback masters directly in Storyline 360.

Can AI Chat edit what's on a master or layout?

Yes, with one exception. You can ask AI Chat to add objects to a master or layout and format the background. Inserting placeholders isn't supported, so use Slide Master view to add them.

Can AI Chat tell me which theme colors and fonts a master uses?

Yes. AI Chat can provide a master's theme colors, but not its fonts.

What if my project has several similar masters or layouts?

Be specific. Include the master name or number in your prompt, for example, “Apply the Title Only layout from Clean to slide 1.2.”

Can I ask for more than one change at a time?

Yes. You can combine actions, such as renaming a layout and moving it to another master, in a single prompt.
