AI Assistant offers powerful features to boost your creativity and accelerate course creation. These FAQs answer common questions about AI Assistant.

The information provided in this FAQ is for general informational purposes only and may be updated as our products and features evolve.

General

Can I try AI Assistant before making a purchase?

Yes. You can sign up for a free trial of Articulate 360 AI, which will give you access to the full Articulate 360 platform plus AI Assistant. At the end of the trial period, you must purchase a subscription for Articulate 360 AI for continued access to AI Assistant.

What happens to my AI-generated content after the free trial?

If your AI Assistant free trial expires, you retain access to any course content you generated with AI Assistant, in accordance with our content retention policy. However, you'll no longer be able to edit that content using the AI-powered features. In the case of AI-generated text-to-speech, you'll retain the audio file but won't be able to alter it.

If you’d like to continue using AI Assistant without interruption, you can purchase or upgrade your subscription to Articulate 360 AI.

Which Articulate 360 apps come with AI Assistant?

AI Assistant is only available in the following Articulate 360 apps:

  • Storyline 360
  • Rise 360

What's the difference between AI Assistant in Storyline 360 and Rise 360?

While AI Assistant is available in both Storyline 360 and Rise 360, the functionalities available vary. Check out this article to learn more about which AI Assistant functionalities are available in each app.

Can AI Assistant understand and generate content in languages other than English?

Yes, AI Assistant can understand and generate content in any language supported by OpenAI. However, we can’t guarantee that content’s accuracy. We recommend working with a language expert to review any translated content generated by AI.

How does AI Assistant compare to other generative AI content-generation tools?

Developed by training experts and incorporating best practices, AI Assistant seamlessly integrates into creator workflows, enhancing speed, quality, and ease of use.  You maintain control through multiple guided steps and opt-in features—including the ability to specify the Bloom’s Taxonomy level for assessments—to achieve your desired output.

How was AI Assistant built for training creation? What best practices are built in?

Grounded in Articulate’s decades of instructional design experience and refined with our expert courses, AI Assistant was designed from the beginning to help people create effective learning . That grounding—along with the instructional design principles built into our prompts—helps AI Assistant understand what makes training effective: clear objectives, thoughtful sequencing, and meaningful practice for learners.

Intense collaboration between instructional designers and AI engineers has shaped every feature developed—from quiz generation to full course drafting. And we never train on customer data. Instead, we rely on trusted learning science and expert feedback to ensure AI Assistant consistently generates high-quality content.

AI Assistant brings all the essentials together in one place—writing tools, image generation, audio narration, and more— letting you build better training quickly and confidently.

What AI technology is AI Assistant built on?

AI Assistant uses a variety of AI model providers for their underlying technology. As the AI landscape evolves, we're constantly reviewing performance and efficiency. That means we consistently evaluate  AI model providers and implement their technology as appropriate. 

What languages are supported in AI text-to-speech?

AI Assistant’s text-to-speech supports over 70 languages. Here’s a list of the supported languages.

Is AI Assistant going to replace me?

Guided by our human-centered principles, we designed AI Assistant as a powerful ally in your course creation journey to accelerate your creativity and boost productivity. You’re in the driver's seat and can guide AI Assistant every step of the way in creating content, minimizing manual work so you can focus on higher-level strategic and creative tasks.

Accessibility

Is AI-generated content accessible?

Yes, the content generated by AI Assistant follows the same accessibility guidelines that the authoring app currently supports. Visit the links below for our accessibility conformance reports.

Does AI Assistant include tools to review content accessibility?

AI Assistant doesn't include tools for reviewing content accessibility. However, a built-in Accessibility Checker is available in Storyline 360.

Is the authoring experience for AI Assistant accessible?

While authors can create accessible courses, the authoring experience is only partially accessible and doesn't fully support screen readers or other accessibility tools. This article provides more details on where Storyline 360 authoring is currently accessible.

To provide the greatest value to our customers, our priority is to improve the accessibility of published output for your learners. While we don't have a timeline for fully compliant authoring experiences with accessibility guidelines, we're making incremental progress and look forward to sharing more information as it becomes available.

Is alt text created automatically for AI-generated images?

In Storyline 360, the prompt used to generate the image is automatically added as alt text. However, the automatic generation process may also make the alt text shorter than is optimal for accessibility. You can manually modify the alt text as needed, or let AI Assistant suggest an alt text.

In a future update, we'll enhance AI Assistant to use an image prompt as alt text in Rise 360 as well. Explore the links below to learn more about how to manually add or modify alt text to images.

Authoring and Support

Is there a resource that can help me learn how to use the AI Assistant?

You can find all the AI Assistant resources on this series page. It contains user guides, answers to other FAQs, and essential tips for getting the most out of AI Assistant.

Can AI Assistant help with animations and JavaScript in Storyline? How about triggers and variables?

You can generate built-in animations and JavaScript entrance animations by chatting with AI Assistant. Generating or manipulating triggers and variables is currently unsupported, but feel free to submit a feature request.

Can learners interact with AI Assistant from my published output?

AI Assistant can only be accessed through the authoring app while creating courses. Learners have no access to AI Assistant.

Can I edit the content generated by AI Assistant?

Yes, you can edit any text content generated by AI Assistant. You always have control over what content to include in your course.

Can AI Assistant create a full course draft using uploaded documents?

Yes. With AI course drafts, you can generate a full course draft from uploaded source material and website URLs.

Does the AI-generated output include a citation to the source?

AI Assistant doesn't currently have the capability to automatically include a citation to the source of generated content.

Can we train AI Assistant to follow our brand themes and company style guide?

At this time, we don't train—nor do we allow customers to train—AI Assistant on user data.

Will AI-generated content be tagged so people know they’re generated by AI?

AI-generated content, including audio and images, is not automatically tagged or disclosed as being generated by AI. If you use AI-generated content in your work , we recommend reviewing it before it’s shared with others. Complying with applicable intellectual property and transparency laws remains your responsibility. For more information, see our Terms of Service.

What file types are supported as source content for AI Assistant?

You can upload source content for AI Assistant to reference when generating output. Check out the table in this article for a list of supported file types and limitations.

Just like other content you import into your course, uploaded source content files can be deleted individually or all at once if you delete the whole course. They’re not automatically deleted unless you’re no longer subscribed to Articulate 360.

Account Management

Can I turn off AI Assistant?

You can disable AI Assistant right from the Manage Subscription page of your Account Management console. When disabled, AI Assistant will remain visible within Rise 360 and Storyline 360 throughout your subscription, but you won’t be able to use it. Note that disabling individual AI Assistant functionalities isn’t supported; in other words, it’s all or nothing.

Can I enable AI Assistant only for specific users/creator licenses in a Teams subscription?

When enabled, AI Assistant is available to all creator licenses in the subscription. There is currently no option to turn it on or off for specific users.

Can I track AI Assistant usage on the user/creator license level?

This is currently not a supported feature.

Can I opt out of AI Assistant data collection?

AI Assistant doesn't retain or log customer data. After AI Assistant generates your content, any data utilized in that process is promptly deleted from the servers of our AI model providers.

Is AI Assistant a paid product?

AI Assistant is available with the purchase of the Articulate 360 AI package. For more information, see our pricing page

Do you offer discounts for AI Assistant?

Educational and Charity discounts don't apply to AI Assistant. Contact our Sales team at sales@articulate.com to discuss your options.

Can I purchase AI Assistant à la carte?

No, AI Assistant is only available as part of the Articulate 360 AI package. This package includes the Articulate 360 platform plus AI Assistant to accelerate your course creation process. It is not possible to purchase AI Assistant for individual creator licenses or as a standalone product outside of Articulate 360.

Can I purchase AI Assistant only for specific users/creator licenses in a Teams subscription?

AI Assistant is available as part of the Articulate 360 AI package. When you upgrade to Articulate 360 AI, access to AI Assistant applies to all users/creator licenses in your subscription. There’s no option to activate or purchase AI Assistant only for selected users/creator licenses on a subscription.

Can I purchase AI Assistant if I’m on an individual Articulate 360 subscription?

Yes, AI Assistant is available in both individual and Teams subscriptions as part of the Articulate 360 AI package.

Security and Privacy

Will my course content be shared with other users?

Your course content—generated by AI or not—will remain private unless you choose to share it with others. See this article for more information on the security and privacy of your data.

Does Articulate share my data with third parties?

Your data is shared to fulfill your request, but we have a zero-data-retention policy with third parties. That means we require all of our AI model providers to delete any customer content immediately after generating output.

Articulate retains your customer content for the duration of the subscription and in accordance with our data retention policy to provide the services under your agreement. For more information, see AI Security and Privacy at Articulate.

Are my AI Assistant requests performed in the EU if I use the EU data center?

If you’re using the EU data center, your AI Assistant requests may be performed in the US or EU, depending on the nature of the request. Keep in mind, our zero-data retention policy applies to all your AI requests. Your AI output, which is considered customer content, will continue to be stored in a data center located in the EU. Is customer content used to train AI Assistant models?

No, Articulate doesn’t use customer content to train AI models. For more information, see AI Security and Privacy at Articulate.

What security controls are in place to mitigate AI-related attacks?

We have rigorous processes for vetting and implementing emerging technology to maintain a state-of-the-art infrastructure. We partner with third-party testing companies to continuously monitor our security infrastructure for vulnerabilities and implement fixes. We also closely monitor developments in the infrastructure sector to address emerging vulnerabilities rapidly. Learn more about our security policy in our Trust Center.

How safe is AI Assistant?

Secure data transmission is critical in our AI Assistant implementations. We employ robust encryption protocols to protect all data exchanges against unauthorized access and maintain data confidentiality and integrity. For more information, see AI Security and Privacy at Articulate.

Legal and Compliance

Who owns the content generated by the AI Assistant?

Articulate disclaims any ownership over customer’s inputs and outputs in their use of AI Assistant. For more information, see the Articulate 360 Terms of Service.

How is my intellectual property protected when using your AI Assistant?

Articulate’s AI model providers only need access to your content for the limited purpose of generating AI output. We retain your customer content for the duration of the subscription to provide the services under your agreement. We have a zero data retention policy. That means we require all of our AI model providers to delete any customer content immediately after generating output. For more information, see AI Security and Privacy at Articulate.

Is it guaranteed that AI-generated content will not violate any copyrights?

Due to the nature of AI, Articulate does not guarantee that AI-generated content will never violate any intellectual property rights. We recommend you review and comply with applicable intellectual property laws for your use cases. For more information, see our Terms of Service.

Can I export AI-generated content to use outside of Articulate 360 courses?

You may use the content generated by AI Assistant at your own risk, in accordance with our Terms of Service.

How can I manage bias and offensive content when using AI image generation?

While we’re excited to offer this innovative feature, we also recognize that AI image generation is experimental and evolving and will sometimes generate results that don’t align with your expectations. To help us improve the product, we encourage you to report any inappropriate output, including the prompts you used, so that we can create a better experience for all users. How do you ensure compliance with relevant regulators and standards governing the use of AI in your products and services?

Compliance with legal and regulatory standards is one of the core tenets of our AI deployment strategy. We regularly review and update our practices and policies to align with evolving regulations, including international data protection protocols, to help ensure AI Assistant meets Articulate's legal and compliance standards. Because AI Assistant can be used across a wide range of industries, jurisdictions, and applications, we encourage customers to evaluate their own use of AI Assistant against the legal, regulatory, and compliance requirements applicable to their specific use case.
