Frontline: Customizing a Training Deck

Article Last Updated Sep 10, 2026

This article applies to:

Bring a topic, a set of talking points, or other source material you already have, and let Nova turn it into a ready-to-present training deck you can tailor to your needs. Read on to learn how.

Generate a Training Deck

In Frontline, a training deck isn't generated on its own; it's added as an artifact within a kit, in one of two ways:

  • Added to the artifacts Nova plans to generate when creating a kit
  • Added as a new artifact to a kit you've already built

Generating a training deck consumes credits. Learn more about credits in this user guide.

Navigate the Slides

Open your training deck by clicking its thumbnail card on the kit’s overview page. This opens a scrollable list of slides, with a matching set of thumbnails in the left sidebar.

To get started, select a slide in either area. The active slide is highlighted with a blue outline in both areas, so you always know where you are.

To duplicate or delete a slide, hover over it, then click the duplicate or trash icon in the upper-right corner. To reorder slides, drag a slide from the left sidebar to a new position.

Choose a Slide Template

Every slide starts from one of several templates, and most templates include a few layout variants. To add a new slide or replace an existing one with a new template, click the Add new button in the left sidebar, then choose any option in the Add slide panel.

The table below lists the available slide templates, their layout variants, and what each template works well for.

Edit Slide Settings, Layout, Content, and Speaker Notes

You can edit a slide in two ways: directly on the slide or through its edit panel. Hover over a slide, then click the pencil icon that appears in the upper-left corner, or in the upper-right corner of the slide’s thumbnail. This opens the slide’s edit panel.

Settings

The following slide settings are on by default, but you can toggle them off as needed.

  • Slide animation
  • Show slide title
  • Show slide description (available only on the first slide)

Layout

You can switch between layout options built for that slide's template. Once a slide is added, these options can be more granular than the previews in the Add slide panel.

Each slide template comes with different layout options. For example, a Heading slide has:

  • Inset left
  • Inset right
  • Full bleed left
  • Full bleed right
  • Centered
  • Full width
  • Text over image
  • Grid

Meanwhile, a Table of Contents slide includes options for:

  • Bullets
  • Numbers
  • Checkboxes
  • Icons

Content

Edit slide content either directly on the slide or in the Edit slide panel. Most text, including slide titles and descriptions, can be edited directly on the slide. Simply highlight any text to display a formatting toolbar below the highlighted text. This toolbar allows you to:

  • Edit with AI.
  • Change the font style, size, color, highlight color, and format.
  • Insert a link.
  • Change text alignment.
  • Turn text into an ordered or unordered list.
  • Adjust indentation, line height, and letter spacing.
  • Insert a math equation.
  • Select all text.
  • Clear text formatting.

In the Edit slide panel, highlight any text to display the same formatting toolbar.

For slides with multiple text elements, such as a list or sequence, use the drag handle that appears on the left when you hover over the elements.

To remove a text element, click the trash icon in the upper-right corner. To add a new text element, click the Add Item or Add Element button at the bottom.

In addition to text, you can manage images, audio, video, and web content in the Edit slide panel for slide templates that support them.

Images

Replace an existing image with one from your computer, the content library, or source materials, or generate a new image with AI. Other image editing options include cropping and adding alt text and captions.

Audio

Add or replace audio by clicking the mic icon next to Audio. This opens the Training media window, where you can add AI audio, record your voice, or upload a file from your computer.

Video

Replace an existing video with either an AI-generated image or an uploaded file. Other video options include replacing its thumbnail with either an AI-generated image or an uploaded file, and managing closed captions.

Web Content

Replace existing web content by clicking Change and pasting a URL or embed code. We use Embedly to embed rich media, so you can include videos, images, documents, and other media from more than 400 content providers, including YouTube, Vimeo, Instagram, and Scribd. See the complete list of supported content providers here.

Speaker Notes

Training decks help you keep your talking points right where you need them. Attach reminders, examples, or key points to each slide in speaker notes so you're never left guessing what to say when you’re presenting live.

Here’s how to update your speaker notes:

  1. Click Edit speaker notes (notepad icon) in the upper right corner.
  2. Click inside the text box to edit your speaker notes.
  3. Click the Next and Previous buttons at the bottom to navigate to other slides and edit their corresponding notes.

Update Content with AI

If you want to edit wording, tone, audience, and more using AI, click the sparkle icon in the upper-right corner while in edit mode. AI can rewrite, shorten, or rephrase content throughout your training deck, except for the speaker notes. Explore our detailed guide to bulk-updating content using AI.

Present Your Training Deck

Deliver your training deck live by entering presentation mode. Here’s how:

  1. Click Present in the upper-right corner while in edit mode.
  2. Use the left and right arrows in the speaker notes window or at the bottom of the slides to navigate.
  3. Press ESC on your keyboard or click the browser’s back button to return to edit mode.

Pro tip: Drag the speaker notes window to a second monitor so your notes stay private while your slides are visible to your audience.

Preview and Share Your Training Deck

At any time, you can preview your training deck to see exactly how it looks and behaves before you share it. Test interactive functionality, device responsiveness, navigation, and more.

Click Preview (eye icon) in the upper-right corner to enter preview mode. Learn more about previewing your training in this user guide.

When you’re ready to share, click the Share button in the top right while editing the content, or go to your kit’s overview page and click the Share button on the artifact’s thumbnail card. This opens the Share window, where you can generate a link.

Before generating a link, you can configure a few options, including:

  • Turning on Push live updates so viewers always see your latest edits (on by default).
  • Requiring viewers to enter their name and email under Name and email required (on by default).
    • Setting the Expected audience to estimate how many people will open the content. Only available if the Name and email required toggle is enabled.
  • Password-protecting the link so viewers need a password to access it (off by default).

Once you’re done configuring the share settings, click Generate link to create the share link. To copy the link, click Copy link.

Exporting to PDF is not supported for training decks. Learn more about Quick Share in this user guide.
