Articulate 360 AI: Articulate Localization’s Evolution
Article Last Updated Oct 15, 2026
This article applies to:
As Articulate Localization integrates more deeply with Articulate 360 AI, it continues to evolve. The core capabilities you rely on—AI translation, in-context validation, and multi-language course management—remain in place, but a new, credit-based billing model offers more flexibility in how you access and pay for translation. This article explains what’s changing, what’s staying the same, and what to expect.
What’s New
Beginning September 10, 2026, all active Articulate 360 AI creators can use credits to translate Rise 360 and Storyline 360 content across all training formats, as long as they have AI permissions enabled. This multi-format translation system uses credits that are calculated by translation volume. The volume equals the number of characters in the source language multiplied by the number of target languages.
What to Expect
Your new experience depends on how you’ve been accessing localization workflows to this point, starting with whether you have activated a paid localization plan. The following bullets outline possible scenarios. Choose the one that applies to you and follow the instructions.
- If you have NOT activated a paid localization plan and AI permissions are enabled for you or your subscription, proceed to the "Multi-Format Translation Using Credits" section.
- If you have a paid localization plan, jump to the “Course-Based Localization” section.
- If you have a paid localization plan but don't have AI permissions for you or your subscription, proceed to the "Localization Without AI" section.
Multi-Format Translation Using Credits
All Articulate 360 AI creators without a paid localization plan can use credits to translate all training formats in Rise 360 and Storyline 360. Translation consumes 2 credits per character in the source language, multiplied by the number of target languages. This system replaces the previous course-based pricing model, which did not account for the length or complexity of training content. Translation uses the same credits that fuel other Nova capabilities—making pricing more flexible, fair, and competitive. Learn more about credit rates.
When you translate using credits, you also get access to in-context language validation, multi-language workflow management, and multilingual training publishing as long as your subscription is active. You can publish translated content as many times as needed. Translating updates to your course consumes credits, but only for the changes that were made.
Things to note:
- Courses translated for free before September 10th but not published will consume credits the first time they’re published, since those translations weren’t previously billed. Once one of these courses is published, it can be republished without using additional credits.
- Multiple glossaries are not available now for multi-format translation, but we’re actively working to add them to multi-format translation.
- Allocating publish credits per creator group isn’t available with multi-format translation.
- Granting/removing translation access per creator is not available with multi-format translation.
- Translating Storyline 360 projects with credits requires Storyline 360 build 3.125.37980.0 or later.
Course-Based Localization
Paid localization plans are now referred to as course-based localization. This term covers the legacy localization billing methods that charge for translations either by the number of courses published (publish credits) or the number translated (translation credits). Within the same billing period, retranslation is free for customers charged per translated course, and republishing is free for customers charged per published course. Choose your billing method below and follow the link to learn how this change affects you:
Billed per published course (publish credits)
For subscriptions with publish credits, everything will be the same. You’ll continue to enjoy free translations for Rise 360 courses and microlearning content and for Storyline 360 courses. Your publish credits will be used when you publish, and republishing is free within the same billing period. You can still use multiple glossaries, grant/remove translation access per creator, and allocate publish credits until your paid plan expires. Your experience will vary depending on whether AI permissions are enabled for you or your subscription:
- If you don’t have AI access, you won’t see any change since you won’t have access to features powered by Nova and new training formats.
- If you have AI access, you’ll need the credits that fuel Nova features to translate new formats, such as training decks, interactive videos, and guides. Learn more about these credits in this user guide.
Upon renewal, you can choose whether to keep your course-based localization plan. Not renewing it switches you to multi-format translation, where you can use the credits that power Nova features to translate all format types. When you translate with these credits, you can publish as many times as needed. Translating updates to your course consumes credits, but only for the changes you made.
Multi-format translation offers a more flexible way to translate content across supported formats. If you decide to make the switch, here are a few important details to keep in mind:
- Courses translated for free before September 10th but not published will consume credits the first time they’re published, since those translations weren’t previously billed. Once one of these courses is published, it can be republished without using additional credits.
- Multiple glossaries are not available now for multi-format translation, but we’re actively working to add them to multi-format translation.
- Allocating publish credits per creator group isn’t available with multi-format translation.
- Granting/removing translation access per creator is not available with multi-format translation.
- Translating Storyline 360 projects with credits requires Storyline 360 build 3.125.37980.0 or later.
Billed per translated course (translation credits)
Subscriptions with translation credits per course can continue to use those translation credits for Rise 360 courses and microlearning content and for Storyline 360 courses. Retranslation is free within the same billing period. You can publish translated content as needed, use multiple glossaries, and grant/remove translation access per creator until your paid plan expires. Your experience will vary depending on whether AI permissions are enabled for you or your subscription:
- If you don’t have AI access, your translation experience won’t change because Nova features and new training formats aren’t available to you. Upon renewal, you can move to per-published-course billing, where you can translate Rise 360 courses and microlearning, and Storyline 360 courses for free. To publish translated content with per-published-course billing, you’ll need to activate a paid course-based localization plan.
- If you have AI access, you’ll need the credits that fuel Nova features to translate new formats, such as training decks, interactive videos, and guides. Learn more about these credits in this user guide.
Upon renewal, we recommend switching to multi-format translation by using the credits that power Nova features to translate all format types. When you translate with these credits, you can publish as many times as needed. Translating updates to your course consumes credits, but only for the changes you made.
Here are a few important details to keep in mind when transitioning to multi-format translation:
- Multiple glossaries are not available now for multi-format translation, but we’re actively working to add them to multi-format translation.
- Allocating publish credits per creator group isn’t available with multi-format translation.
- Granting/removing translation access per creator is not available with multi-format translation.

Localization Without AI
If you don't have AI access, your localization experience won’t change. You can still translate Rise 360 courses and microlearning and Storyline 360 courses for no additional cost, but you’ll need a course-based localization plan to publish translated content. To use credits for Nova features like multi-format translation or to create new training formats, such as guides, training decks, and interactive videos, AI permissions must be enabled for you and your subscription.
Summary
Since this update creates a new experience for creators with AI permissions, we recommend enabling AI for everyone who can benefit from these capabilities. The table below highlights the differences between the previous experience, which persists for those without AI permissions, and the new experience available with AI permissions.

FAQs
Are spaces counted as billable characters in translation?
Yes, spaces are counted as characters for translation billing purposes.
With multi-format translation, will I lose access to translated content when I run out of credits?
No, you retain access to all the content you translated and can continue to validate translations and publish existing translations. However, you won’t be able to translate new content or update translated content.
I have a course-based pricing plan. Can I switch to multi-format translation using credits before my renewal? What if I run out of course-based credits before my next renewal?
Because multi-format translation is considered a new contract with different terms, agreement changes can only take effect at renewal. If you think you’ll run out of localization credits before then, contact success@articulate.com. They can help you understand your options for right-sizing your course-based billing plan.
How do I publish content that I’ve translated for free?
Content you’ve translated for free but not published will consume credits the first time it's published. Once published, this content can be republished as needed without using additional credits.
