Articulate 360 AI and Frontline: Managing AI Tutor

Article Last Updated Sep 10, 2026

This article applies to:

Boost engagement without disrupting the flow of learning with AI Tutor. Built directly into your content, AI Tutor lets your audience ask questions, get simpler explanations, request examples, or summarize key points without ever leaving their training. Read on to learn more.

Manage AI Tutor

AI Tutor is turned on by default for most of the training formats you create, including courses, microlearning content, guides, and quick references.

AI Tutor is also available for training decks, but it’s turned off by default. Because they’re already interactive, scenarios and interactive videos don’t offer AI Tutor capabilities.

If you want to update AI Tutor’s button text, change its image, or disable it entirely, follow these steps:

  1. Open the content in which you want to manage AI Tutor.
  2. Click Settings (gear icon) in the upper-right corner of the content’s overview page to open Course Settings if it’s a course, or the equivalent window for artifacts.
  3. (Optional) If you want to disable AI Tutor, toggle off Enable AI Tutor in the AI Tutor tab. In a course, you can also manage AI Tutor from two other places:
    • Click Publish in the upper right, then select AI Tutor.
    • Click the sparkle icon in the upper right, then choose AI settings from the drop-down menu. In the AI settings window, go to the AI Tutor tab.

Note: If you turn off AI Tutor in published content, you must republish the content to remove the audience-facing Ask AI Tutor button.

  1. (Optional) If you want to change the label on the button your audience will click to start an AI Tutor chat, enter a custom name in the Button text input box at the bottom.
    • In Rise 360, you can edit the tooltip and placeholder labels by going to the Labels tab on the Course Settings page, then scrolling to the AI Tutor section.
    • If you have a brand image or logo you want to appear in the AI Tutor chat window header, click the Image icon in the bottom right.
    • To delete an uploaded image, click the delete icon.
  2. Click Done to save your settings if you’re in the AI settings window. If you’re on the content’s settings page, changes are saved automatically.

If enabled, the Ask AI Tutor button displays in the lower-right corner of your content, visible to you in preview, and to your audience in the published version. Click the button to open the chat window. Prebuilt prompts for explaining, searching, or summarizing the training content display. Use the chat box to enter custom requests.

If you don’t click the Ask AI Tutor button, AI Tutor opens automatically after you’ve scrolled through 75% of the current lesson in a course or quick reference.

Note: If you can’t find AI Tutor, AI might be disabled for your subscription.

Understand Compatibility and Accessibility

AI Tutor has a fully responsive, touch-friendly design. It supports screen readers and keyboard navigation, works with translated and localized courses, and is compatible with Quick Share, Reach 360, and LMS outputs.

Configure Network Requirements

AI Tutor needs access to external network services to work properly. On highly restricted networks, like some corporate intranets or allow-listed environments, it may be limited or unavailable.

If you run into issues, ask your IT team to allowlist the required Articulate 360 network endpoints.

Analyze User Activity

AI Tutor offers analytics to help you understand how your audience uses the feature and interacts with your content. Access analytics from either your Frontline or Articulate 360 AI dashboard by clicking Analytics in the sidebar menu, then selecting the course, kit, or artifact you want to view.

You can also jump straight to the analytics information from a kit or artifact's overview page. Click the Analytics icon (graph icon) in the upper-right corner to open that content's analytics page in a new browser tab.

If your content has enough AI Tutor activity, its analytics page will display anonymized, aggregated insights, including the questions your audience asks most, the topics that recur, and the moments when your audience leans on AI Tutor for extra support. Use these patterns to spot content gaps and understand where your training could be clearer.

Note: Insights appear once your content has at least six distinct AI Tutor sessions to report on, and only for published content shared through Quick Share.

FAQs

Is AI Tutor a Nova-powered feature that consumes credits?

No. AI Tutor isn’t part of Nova, Articulate’s AI agent for complex training creation workflows, so it doesn’t consume credits. AI Tutor is a separate, audience-facing feature that assists your audience as they work through training.

Embedded directly in the course experience, AI Tutor answers questions and guides your audience through concepts, helping them better understand the material.

Why isn't AI Tutor available for scenarios and interactive videos?

Scenarios and interactive videos are already interactive formats, so adding another interactive component that competes for your audience's attention doesn't provide an optimal learning experience.

Both formats also contain checkpoints and decision points that serve as knowledge checks. AI Tutor is disabled during quizzes and knowledge checks, so it can't be used to bypass them.

If you want to offer AI Tutor alongside video content, use a course or microlearning, where AI Tutor is enabled by default.

Can an admin turn off only AI Tutor for the entire subscription?

No. AI Tutor is part of a subscription's AI features. If an admin disables AI for the subscription, AI Tutor is unavailable everywhere, and authors can't turn it on.

There's currently no setting to disable AI Tutor while keeping other AI features enabled. Authors can disable AI Tutor for individual pieces of content using the steps above.

Will AI Tutor reveal answers to quizzes and knowledge checks?

No. AI Tutor is designed to support learning, not bypass it. Your audience will not be able to extract answers from AI Tutor during quizzes or knowledge checks. This ensures that Ask AI Tutor enhances comprehension while maintaining the instructional intent of assessments.

Does AI Tutor support languages other than English?

AI Tutor works with translated and localized content, and its underlying large language model (LLM) can understand and respond in languages supported by OpenAI.

Does AI Tutor pull content from outside the content?

No. AI Tutor is grounded in the content found in the training. It uses the published content as its primary knowledge source and tailors responses to the specific content your audience is working on. AI Tutor does not browse the web. Responses stay relevant, controlled, and aligned with the author’s intended training experience.

As the creator, do I have visibility into my audience’s chat?

By default, your audience’s conversations with AI Tutor are private. Articulate stores these prompts to surface analytics. As the creator, you only see de-identified, aggregated insight into how your audience is using AI Tutor across your content, such as common questions and topics.

Does an audience’s feedback get shared with Articulate?

Yes. We use thumbs-up/thumbs-down feedback and interactions. Feedback goes directly to our product and engineering teams to improve the AI Tutor experience.

Can AI Tutor answer questions about audio and video content?

Yes. AI Tutor can access transcripts, if available, to answer questions about audio and video content.

Can AI Tutor reference content from code blocks?

Yes. AI Tutor can reference text within code blocks in its responses.

Can AI Tutor reference content from Storyline blocks?

No. Currently, AI Tutor doesn’t have access to Storyline blocks.

Is AI Tutor available for all artifacts and formats?

AI Tutor is available for courses, microlearning content, and new artifacts and formats, but not for scenarios or interactive videos.

Can AI Tutor share source content within the chat?

AI Tutor can reference course content in its responses, but direct access to source files isn’t available at this time. We’re considering ways to expand this, such as through a resource library.
