Understand Kits

A kit is a training package built around a single goal and composed of multiple artifacts in different formats: guides, training decks, scenarios, interactive videos, and quick references. Instead of building each format separately, you use a single source and prompt, and Nova generates the most appropriate artifacts from it all at once.

Because every artifact in a kit comes from the same source, the artifacts remain consistent with each other and with the training goal you set.

Generating a kit or adding artifacts to an existing kit is a Nova-powered action that consumes credits. Learn more about credits in this user guide.

Generate a Kit

Here's how to get started:

1. Go to your Frontline dashboard.
2. Upload your source material using any of these methods:
   • Click inside the Drag or choose files area to open the Import window. Clicking the tile with a paperclip or hyperlink icon also opens the Import window.
     • In the Import window, click inside the Attach files tab to open your file explorer, then select your file. Or, drag and drop your source material directly into the Import window. See the table below for details on supported file types and their limitations.
     • In the Add link tab, paste links to your sources hosted elsewhere on the internet.
   • Click the Google Drive or OneDrive tile to import files from those locations.
   • Click inside the Record video area to start recording your screen. You can record any browser tab, any window, or your entire screen.
3. Enter a prompt describing the content you want to create into the Instructions field, including the target audience and goal. For example, "Turn this launch deck into training that prepares my reps to talk to customers about our new security product."
4. Add or select a brand theme if you have one.
5. Click Let’s go.

Once you click Let’s go, Nova moves through three stages—Details and Outline, where you confirm, review, and refine the kit and what Nova plans to create, then Drafts, where Nova generates the actual artifacts. Keep reading to review each step.

Step 1 - Details

Nova generates kit details and a plan for each artifact it intends to create. You can review and refine everything on this screen before generating your kit.

Confirm Details

In the left panel, review your audience, goals, key takeaways, and success metrics.

• To edit manually, click into any box and type your changes.
• To edit with AI, click the box, select the sparkle icon in the upper-right corner, then type your instructions in the pop-up window. You can also attach additional source material for the update.

At the bottom, set how much practice to include and how the training will be delivered.

• Practice level: Choose Less practice (explanation-focused), Balanced, or More practice (adds knowledge checks, scenarios, and activities). The latter is the default.
• Delivery: Choose Self-paced, Live session, or Both (the default).

Note: Changing either selection automatically regenerates the planned artifacts displayed on the right.

Review Artifact Plan

On the right, review each artifact Nova plans to create, including its format, title, and description.

• Click the text to edit an artifact's title or description. There's no Edit with AI option here, unlike the details in the left panel.
• Click the paper icon at the bottom of the card to add or remove source material from a specific artifact. You can add as many files as you want, but only the files with a checked box are used for that artifact, not the whole kit.
• Add a new artifact by clicking a card in the Add artifact section. Choose a type, add instructions if asked, optionally attach a file, then select Generate.

Once everything looks right, click Generate kit in the bottom-right corner to proceed to the next step and generate full outlines for each artifact.

Step 2 - Outline

After you click Generate kit, Nova builds a complete outline for each artifact and takes you to the Outline step. You can review and refine each outline here before Nova drafts the full content.

Refine Planned Artifacts

Each artifact card shows its outline, which includes a title, description, and the sections Nova plans to cover, each with its own title and short description.

To manually edit an artifact’s outline:

1. Click its corresponding card to enter edit mode. The available fields you can edit vary by artifact type. For example:
   • A scenario expands to include its overview, situation, character and learner roles, learning goals, and learning challenges.
   • A quick reference expands to include a title, description, a reorderable list of lessons, each with its own title and content, and a button to add a new lesson.
2. Click Done when you're finished.

To use AI in revising an artifact’s outline:

1. Hover over its card, click the sparkle icon in the upper-right corner, then type what you want changed. Optionally add new source content by clicking the paperclip icon.
2. Click the up arrow icon when you’re done.

To add a new artifact to the kit, click the Add artifact button on the left or click an artifact type under the Add artifact section at the bottom of the page. Enter your instructions, except for interactive videos that don’t require them, and optionally add source content, then click Generate. Note that a video is required for guides and interactive videos.

To delete an artifact from the kit, hover over its card, then click the trash icon in the upper-right corner.

View Training Details

Click to expand the Training details at the top center of the page to reveal a read-only summary of the audience, goals, success metrics, and key takeaways you set in the previous step.

Once you’re all set, click Generate [x] artifacts in the bottom-right corner to proceed to the last step, where Nova generates full content for each artifact.

Step 3 - Drafts

In this step, there’s no additional confirm-and-refine screen as in the previous steps. You land on the kit's overview page, where every artifact is ready to open, share, or edit directly.

The goals and success metrics confirmed in the previous steps still display at the top. Below that, thumbnail cards for each finished artifact are displayed with labels showing format, title, and last updated date. Click a thumbnail card to open and edit an artifact.

To delete an artifact, hover over its thumbnail card, click the three-dot menu, then select Delete artifact.

Add a New Artifact

Need another format after your kit is built? Here’s how:

1. Open a kit from your dashboard or library if you’re not already on the kit’s overview page.
2. Click an artifact type in the Add artifact section at the bottom.
3. Add instructions and optionally attach source material.
   • Interactive videos don’t need instructions.
   • Guides and interactive videos require a video source.
4. Click Generate.

Update Content with AI

If you want to edit wording, tone, audience, and more across your kit using AI, click the sparkle icon in the upper-right corner. AI can rewrite, shorten, or rephrase content throughout your kit. Explore our detailed guide to bulk-updating content using AI.

Share Your Kit’s Artifacts

To share an artifact, click Share on the artifact’s thumbnail card, then click Generate link in the window that opens.

Before generating a link, you can configure a few options, including:

• Turning on Push live updates so viewers always see your latest edits (on by default).
• Requiring viewers to enter their name and email under Name and email required (on by default).
  • Setting the Expected audience to estimate how many people will open the content. Only available if the Name and email required toggle is enabled.
• Password-protecting the link so viewers need a password to access it (off by default).

Once you’re done configuring the share settings, click Generate link to create the share link. To copy the link, click Copy link.
